Fish Tomato Curry

Ingredients

  • 650 gm fish pieces
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 4 green chillies-cut into halves
  • 1/2 cup tomato paste
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 2 tomatoes-quartered
  • coriander leaves to garnish


Method

  1. Mix the lemon juice, salt, ginger and garlic paste together. Rub this mixture into the fish to coat well. Cover the fish pieces and refrigerate for an hour.
  2. Put oil and green chillies in a dish and cook the dish covered, at HI flame for 2 minutes.
  3. Place the fish pieces over the oil and turn once to coat both sides. Cook the dish uncovered, at HI flame for 4 minutes turning once.
  4. Add the tomato paste and chilli powder, turn the fish and add the quartered tomatoes. Cover and cook at HI flame for 5 minutes. Turn the fish pieces; continue to cook, now at 70% flame for 7 minutes, turning once.


Serve the fish tomato curry garnished with coriander leaves.

Javagal Srinath: Indian Bowling Great

Javagal Srinath former Indian Cricketer was born on 31 August 1969 in Mysore, Karnataka. He qualified as an engineering graduate from Sri Jayachamarajendra College, of Engineering, Mysore.

Cricket being a passion right from childhood, Javagal Srinath took in lot of club matches. In 1989/90, he made his first class debut against Hyderabad. He procured a hat trick in the first innings and followed this with wickets from successive balls in all second innings. Javagal Srinath ended the season hauling 25 wickets in six matches and won 20 wickets in the following season.

Javagal Srinath started his career for the Indian cricket team in 1991/92 by his first test debut against Australia at Brisbane. He finished the expedition with his ten wickets in hand. In the next tour to South Africa in Cape Town he chanced to bowl and pocketed 4/33 in 27 overs. He completed the tour gaining 12 wicket. his first debut in home soil against West Indies happened in 1994 with the retirement of Kapil Dev. India won by 96 runs and Javagal Srinath became Man of the Match for scoring 60 runs and taking five wickets in the second innings of the tournament. His improvement in batting and scoring him two half centuries in these series. In Titan cup series against Australia in 1996, he scored 30 runs in 23 balls thus taking India to the final. In the same series, Javagal Srinath made a half century in a match against South Africa in Rajkot.

In 1992, Javagal Srinath made his first One Day International (ODI) debut in the Wills Trophy at Sharjah. Later in 1995, he joined the Gloucestershire county cricket club and took 9/76 against Glamorgan county cricket club. His one and only season with them ended with 87 wickets. Leicestershire and Durham were the other clubs for which he had played the English county cricket.

One of the highlights of Javagal Srinath, popularly known as “Mysore Express”, was his speed which was timed at 150kph with one particular delivery at 156kph in the 1996/97 series in South Africa. His average was always finer at home than away from home. He was expertise in reverse swinging the ball that gained him many wickets.

Javagal Srinath was overwhelmed for his performance in the World Cup 2003 in South Africa where he scored 87 off 10 overs. He announced his retirement from International cricket in the same season and later in 2005, he was been appointed the coach of the Lashings World XI team. In 2006, he becoming the commentator during the India-England series, The International Cricket Council (ICC) selected Javagal Srinath as a match referee during the World Cup 2007.

In 1996, Javagal Srinath received the arjuna award. He is the third Indian after Kapil Dev to haul 200 wickets in ODI’s.

The player has a real love for wild life and likes to spare his leisure time for reading, music and a bit of information technology.
